Try to water between 5am and 11am to reduce evaporation and prevent fungile diseases. As a general rule a plant in a one or two gallon pot requires between 3-6 gallons of water a week in summer. Of course this is not set in stone. Just be careful , a day of light rain is not sufficient for newly planted trees and shrubs. A light rain is considered less than a half inch. Watering of new plantings in dry spells is sometimes necessary for several years. When leaves are drooping or wilting, most likely your plant needs water immediately!
